JAKUB BERDYCH KARPELIS

Jakub Berdych Karpelis (1971) is a Czech sculptor, conceptual artist and designer. Although originally trained as a sculptor, he now focuses on conceptual design and creating works of art using traditional Czech materials. He co-founded the Qubus Design Studio in 2002, serving as its art director and chief designer since 2010. His work redefines traditional crafts by merging them with irony, wit and cultural commentary. His portfolio, exhibited internationally, spans witty utilitarian designs and limited-edition and unique art pieces. His works blur the boundaries between design and art, celebrating Czech tradition while appealing to a global audience. He mainly works through conceptual design, using traditional materials such as glass, stone, and porcelain. Among the most famous projects is the reconstruction of the interior of the Church of St. Bartholomew in Chodovice. His works can be seen not only in Czech, but also in world famous galleries and collections such as Moss Gallery New York or Mint Gallery London and others. In addition to conceptual and product design, he also works in the field of interior design, architecture and free art. Since 2008 he has been the art director of the gallery store DOX by Qubus at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague.
